Negative People to Avoid On The Job

Some people exude negativity and these people can be quite distracting to others even though they may be accomplishing their tasks. There are two main personalities which you should avoid or manage properly.

  • The Gossipers - While rumours and scandalous news about other co-workers seem to be their speciality, the fact is they just love talking about other people. No one likes to be discussed behind their back and to be truthful it's only a matter of time before they are discussing you. Always encourage a high degree professionalism and try to keep your conversations with these people work related. If everyone in the office takes this approach then the gossiping must inevitably stop as gossipers need listeners!
  • The Complainers - They complain about their job, the boss, the work conditions and just about every and anything but they never have any suggestions for improvement or any proactive contributions to make. These people are heavy and you do not need these people to be pulling down your enthusiasm for the job. Again maintain professional relationships with these people and keep your discussions on work deliverables or neutral topics as far as possible.
Relationships at your new place of work can be very rewarding and everyone likes someone with good people skills. These negative people though may be best handled if totally avoided as far as possible. No one is saying to forget your manners however when you are going to take a coffee break you may want to steer away from the corner where they are huddled.

"Birds of a feather flock together" - some people are content to scratch at the ground while others are looking to soar. Link yourself to positive people and try to exude positivity yourself and you will surely soar to new heights.
